La NIDCAP Federation International (NFI) tiene como objetivo principal apoyar a los padres como los cuidadores óptimos de su bebé. La presencia de los padres y su colaboración activa con su bebé hospitalizado y el equipo de atención médica mejora el desarrollo neurológico del bebé.1
La NFI reconoce que es fundamental reflexionar continuamente sobre el equilibrio entre las preocupaciones por la seguridad y la salud, y las mejores prácticas conocidas para apoyar resultados óptimos, a medida que las comunidades, los sistemas de salud, los profesionales hospitalarios y las familias con bebés hospitalizados navegan por la COVID-19. Se considera cada vez más que los beneficios sustanciales de la participación de los padres en el cuidado de sus bebés hospitalizados, incluyendo el contacto piel con piel y la lactancia materna,2-6 superan los riesgos potenciales de transmisión de la COVID-19.
Es la postura de la NFI, basada en la investigación disponible, que la no separación de las díadas padres-bebé y la participación activa de los padres en el cuidado del bebé son esenciales para mitigar las secuelas en los bebés hospitalizados durante estos periodos críticos de desarrollo.7-9
