RESUMEN
Las recomendaciones iniciales de separar a las madres de sus recién nacidos durante la pandemia de la
enfermedad por coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) han generado una práctica de separación perjudicial. Este artículo presenta una revisión de la información más reciente con respecto a (1) los 3 modos de transmisión del virus al neonato; (2) la incidencia, los signos clínicos y la gravedad de la COVID-19 en el neonato; (3) los factores a considerar para equilibrar los riesgos y beneficios de la separación y el contacto piel con piel (CPP) al realizar una toma de decisiones compartida; y (4) un compendio de las directrices publicadas sobre el CPP; y concluye con recomendaciones para la práctica segura del CPP a fin de prevenir y/o restringir la infección por COVID-19 en los neonatos.
