Join us in creating a haven of love and support for every precious baby.

We are hosting it again!

We continue to host the GLOBAL Kangaroo-a-thon, now integrated with The Zaky® APP for efficient kangaroo care analytics and management.

Manual calculations were time-consuming for teams and for us, prompting this streamlined approach.

Whether you're new to kangaroo-a-thons or not, and whether or not you join the global event, feel invited to register, simplifying processes for everyone.

The Zaky® APP for parents (mobile) and for kangaroo care (web) was developed by Nurtured by Design, Inc. on behalf of Zachary Jackson and was funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, as well as Nurtured by Design, Inc.

Registration for the Global Kangaroo-a-thon ends on November 16, 2024.

Count what counts

In the NICU, precision in counting matters for every aspect, from milk droplets, baby's growth, and medication milliliters.

Not tracking kangaroo care suggests to parents and staff that it's either optional or unimportant.

While Kangaroo-a-thons offer a two-week effective snapshot, the manual tracking and calculations make it time-consuming and unsustainable for all year-long analytics.

Analytics

Analytics are crucial because they provide valuable insights and informed decision-making based on data-driven observations.

A Kangaroo-a-thon creates a snapshot for a data-driven approach to assess the Kangaroo Care practice in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Managing Kangaroo-a-thons enables organized assessments of the frequency and duration of Kangaroo Care practices, offering a comprehensive view of its integration into the care protocol.

These not only deepen the realization of Kangaroo Care benefits but also assist healthcare professionals in making informed decisions to optimize neonatal care, evaluate training, and improve developmental outcomes for vulnerable infants.

Who does what?

The Team Leader registers the team and receives a Team Code.

Parents track kangaroo care duration.

Parents and coaches join the team.

The app manages all calculations, and the Team Leader receives the data. Parents and Coaches see the leaderboard, graphs, and team performance.

All in real-time. All year long.

This intentional process aims to elevate parent involvement, satisfaction, and significantly increase kangaroo care, contributing to improved healthcare outcomes for both babies and parents, as extensively documented in the literature.

What information is shared?

Babies and coaches join the team using a Screen Name and a Team Code.

PARENTS:

With other parents and coaches in your own team, you share the baby's screen name, kangaroo care duration, and City/State/Country.

With the Team Leader, you also share the parent's name (the one that registered the baby on the mobile app), baby's name, and the optional short survey after tracking every kangaroo care session.

With other teams, only the aggregate of the team's kangaroo care duration is shared.

COACHES:

Coaches share their screen name and location (City, State, and Country) with other coaches in the same team, and the name, job title, and location with the Team Leader.

TEAM LEADER:

With other teams in the same contest, the Team Leader shares the Team name and location, the aggregated Kangaroo Care duration and average of the entire team, and the number of babies and coaches.

Contribute to Health Research

You are invited to join us in advancing science.

All research information is utilized without any identifiers, such as names, usernames, or locations.

Parents are encouraged to further participate by answering short surveys after each kangaroo care session.

Thank you for your valuable contribution.

The Zaky® APP is exclusively developed by Nurtured by Design, ensuring that no other entity has access to or utilizes the data in any other manner.
