Parents for Kangaroo Care Institute (PKCI)

Mission:

To empower and equip NICU parent organizations as ambassadors of Kangaroo Care, advancing the practice in healthcare settings and homes worldwide to improve the quality of life for infants and families.

Parents for Kangaroo Care Institute (PKCI) Objectives

  • Educate:

    Equip ambassadors with resources, training, and educational tools to advocate for Kangaroo Care (KC) in their communities and online.

  • Engage:

    Build a global network of parents who actively participate in Kangaroo Care awareness campaigns and initiatives.

  • Empower:

    Give ambassadors the confidence and platform to share their personal and community stories and experiences with Kangaroo Care.

  • Measure:

    Track global progress by analyzing data on Kangaroo Care practices.

  • Expand:

    Encourage partnerships with healthcare institutions and organizations globally to increase the reach of Kangaroo Care in NICUs.

Application and Selection Process:

Interested parent organizations will apply through a dedicated page on the www.kangaroo.care website.

  • Selection criteria will focus on personal KC experience, motivation to advocate, and willingness to engage in training, and interest in becoming part of the global kangaroo care community.

Training and Certification:

Ambassadors will undergo a comprehensive online training program on Kangaroo Care, trauma-informed care, and family-centered practices.

Upon completion, they will receive a certificate designating them as official K.A.N.G.A. Ambassadors.

Resource Hub:

A dedicated resource portal will provide ambassadors with access to educational materials, toolkits for running local events, social media content, and analytics to track their impact.

Global Awareness Campaigns:

Ambassadors will spearhead local and global campaigns such as International Kangaroo Care Awareness Day (May 15.)

Each year, K.A.N.G.A. Ambassadors will work together to benchmark and host regional events, webinars, or social media initiatives to promote Kangaroo Care, and share the results, photos, videos so they can be compiled with others, and be posted in social media and the website.

Data Collection and Reporting:

Ambassadors will be encouraged to report back on local Kangaroo Care adoption and share stories of impact.

Regular check-ins as needed will help track the program’s success and global growth.

Ambassador Recognition:

Top-performing ambassadors will be recognized in an annual awards ceremony (either virtual or in-person).

They will be featured on the Kangaroo Care Day (May 15) website and social media for their contributions to advancing Kangaroo Care.
