Count what Counts - A snapshot of the state of your kangaroo care practice

The Kangaroo-a-thon is a fun, easy, and effective way to take a snapshot of your kangaroo care program:
How many babies are held in Kangaroo Care in your unit? what is the average duration of the KC sessions? what percentage of babies are held? How do you compare with other NICUs? Join us and we would also add up all the teams and know the same for teams globally on May 15 (using everyone's local time).
We provide everything you need to do this project and submit easy results so you will be counted and be advancing kangaroo care. The data will assist with comparing the results with other teams, and with future and past performances!

A quick update about The Zaky® APP

The Zaky® APP was funded by the Gates Foundation and Nurtured by Design.  It has two phases and its use is optional for this Kangaroo-a-thon:

Phase 1 is The Zaky MOBILE APP is for parents to track kangaroo care and other activities, journal, and invite others to join the baby's group. It is live and working.

Phase 2 is the WEB APP for team leaders and coaches, and it manages kangaroo-a-thons and kangaroo care programs. Unfortunately we won’t finish testing on time for teams to use it for the May 15th's kangaroo-a-thon. We will send updates and a notice when it is ready to launch.

Therefore, for the benefit of the teams, we decided to not wait to announce that this Kangaroo-a-thon is for the 24 hours of May 15 in your local time. Parents may use The Zaky® mobile app to track kangaroo care, or they can use the tracking cards provided in the welcome packet below.

You are welcome to use the resources below to assist in competitions that last from 1 to 15 days (May 1-15)

If you have access to this page is because you are registered for the Kangaroo-a-thon. Please invite other teams to visit our homepage and register at https://kangaroo.care/products/kcd-kangarooathon
The resources we provide here will make your kangaroo-a-thon and Kangaroo Care Day (May 15) easy, effective, fun, and successful.

Let's start!

========================================

STEP 1 - PLAN FOR YOUR TEAM'S KANGAROO-A-THON BETWEEN NOW AND A DAY BEFORE YOUR KANGAROO-A-THON STARTS

Please click here to download your Team's Welcome Packet
(Plan, forms, tracking cards, calendar, etc.)

The packet is for one day, however, you can duplicate it for each day of your Kangaroo-a-thon. The excel file is for May 1 to May 15 so you may use it as many days as your Kangaroo-a-thon lasts.

    OPTIONAL:

    ========================================

    STEP 2 - EXECUTE - TRACK KANGAROO CARE ON YOUR LOCAL TIME

    Assist parents to fill out their  Tracking Cards by  tracking every minute and every session of kangaroo care either on The Zaky® mobile app for parents, or directly on the Tracking Card provided in page 10 of the welcome packet file. At the end of May 15th, collect all the Tracking Cards, even if they show zero kangaroo care.
    Repeat the same process for every day of your kangaroo-a-thon, keeping track of which date is each tracking card.

    ========================================

    STEP 3 - TALLY AND SUBMIT THE RESULTS AND EVALUATION (MAY 16-22)

    STEP 3A - CALCULATE THE RESULTS EVERY DAY OF YOUR KANGAROO-A-THON

    Click here to download the excel file that will help you tally your Tracking Cards (Suitable for the 24-Hour Kangaroo-a-thon and those lasting up to 15 days from May1 to May15)
    After you transfer the duration and number of sessions from every Tracking Card, the Excel file calculates the four numbers that you will submit for your team:
                1. TEAM SIZE
                2. SESSIONS DURATION
                3. NUMBER OF SESSIONS
                4. BABIES HELD
                5. OPTIONAL: Team Goal

    STEP 3B - SUBMIT THE RESULTS AND EVALUATION BEFORE MAY 22, 2023
    (Only one time per team)

    The deadline to submit your results and evaluation is May 22nd, 2023, at 11:59 pm your local time.

    Click here to submit your team's results and evaluation between May 16 and May 22, 2023

    The results will be published on the website and emailed to the team leaders on May 29th, 2023.

    ========================================
    (OPTIONAL)

    SHARE YOUR TEAM'S RESULTS WITH YOUR TEAM

    When you use the Excel file that we provide, it will immediately calculate the following results so you can share with your team members (parents and coaches).  In addition, you can use it for their own analytics and to compare the performance for the last and next kangaroo-a-thon.
    ========================================

    SHARE THE GLOBAL RESULTS WITH YOUR TEAM

    When all the teams submit the results before May 22, we will compile and share the following report filled with the global results:
    ========================================

    WHO WINS?

    We all win by "counting what counts", and when we elevate Kangaroo Care to a program where we can perform analytics and have numbers to evaluate our performance periodically.
    Our babies and parents have the right to kangaroo care and participating in this kangaroo-a-thon we are able to inspire, empower, and provide tools that improve its implementation.
    We are all worth it.
    The winner will be the highest Average Kangaroo Care Duration Per Baby on May 15th.  We will have a Global Winner and a Winner for each Country that participates - each will receive a certificate of achievement and lots of bragging rights.
